PPPoE¶
PPPoE is how most DSL and fibre ISPs hand over a connection: the gateway authenticates to the ISP and receives its public address over the session.
Where: Connectivity > Interfaces & network > Interfaces & network tab > + Add Interface > PPPoE.
Creating a PPPoE interface¶
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Name | e.g. pppoe0 |
| Parent interface | The port the modem or ONT is plugged into |
| ISP Username (authname) | The username your ISP issued |
| ISP Password (authkey) | The matching password |
| Description | Optional label |
Click Create PPPoE. The address is negotiated with the ISP.
Give the parent port no address of its own.
After it comes up¶
- The interface shows the address the ISP assigned.
- Declare it as an uplink on the Internet tab — see Internet uplinks and failover.
- Firewall rules meaning "from the internet" should name the PPPoE interface, not the physical port.
If it does not come up¶
Wrong credentials are the usual cause: the interface simply never gets an address. The System log under Logs carries what the PPP daemon reported.
