Detected equipment¶
Detected equipment, under Building blocks in the device menu, shows what the gateway has seen on its networks: its ARP table, with the manufacturer of each device resolved from its MAC address.
Reading the table¶
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| State | The entry's state as the device reports it |
| IP Address | The neighbour's address |
| MAC Address | Its hardware address |
| Vendor | The manufacturer, from the MAC prefix. this gateway marks the device's own ports; randomised marks an address the device made up (common on phones), which cannot be identified. |
| Hostname | The name known for it, where there is one |
| Interface | Where it was seen |
The header shows {count} entries. With nothing to show: No ARP entries found.
Narrowing it down¶
- Filter by IP, MAC, hostname... searches those columns.
- The interface selector limits the table to one interface, or All interfaces.
Suggestions¶
Above the table, {count} recognised device(s) on this network: lists the vendors found. When several devices from one vendor share a network, the page suggests the integration that sets up a segment for them, e.g. {count} {vendor} devices seen on {iface}, with a link to the Integrations page. Suggestions can be dismissed there.
What it is useful for¶
- Finding a device's MAC address for a DHCP reservation
- Confirming a client is on the network you expect: check Interface
- Spotting an address used by two devices
The table is what the gateway has cached, not a scan. A device that has not sent anything recently may be missing.
