Diagnostics¶
Diagnostics runs ping and traceroute from the gateway, so you see the network as the device sees it. It is the third tab under Governance, next to History and Logs.
Running a tool¶
- Choose a Tool: Ping or Traceroute.
- Enter a Target: a hostname or IP address.
- Set Probes, the number of packets to send.
- Click Run.
The button shows Running…. The output appears under Result, with the exit status (exit {code}).
Output comes from the device over the live channel. Nothing is stored. If you leave the page, the result is gone.
When it does not run¶
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| The gateway is not connected. | The device is offline |
| The diagnostic timed out. | The device took the request but returned no result in time |
| The diagnostic could not be run. | The device refused the request or could not start the tool |
What to use it for¶
- Check that a new static route sends traffic where you intended.
- Check the gateway's own internet access before you look at a client.
- Tell a DNS problem from a routing problem: ping an IP address, then ping a name.
For anything else, use the Root Console if you have access to it.
