Bridges¶
A bridge joins several interfaces into one broadcast domain, like a switch inside the gateway.
Where: Connectivity > Interfaces & network > Interfaces & network tab > + Add Interface > Bridge.
Creating a bridge¶
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Name | e.g. bridge0 |
| Members | The interfaces to join |
| Enable STP | Spanning tree, if the bridge could form a loop with other switching |
| Description | Optional label |
Click Create Bridge.
A bridge has no address¶
A bridge carries no address of its own; OpenBSD refuses one. To give the bridged network an address, add a virtual interface (vether) to the bridge and address that.
You rarely need to build this by hand: a LAN created on the Local networks tab is a vether in a bridge, and its ports are attached and detached there. See Local networks.
